Yes, I am Vegetarian. I prefer to define myself as “not eating meat by choice”.

Living in Spain, I couldn’t help but noticing how much the meat is central idea in the culture, lifestyle, even in the local “windows language”. Everywhere I look, I see the leg of Jamon, displayed proudly.

“Meat Parade” started from this sense of pride that Spanish culture possess regarding meat, which exists in a total conflict with my vegetarian ideology and the cultural images I have about meat consumption.

This series is a little journey, driven by curiosity, that I took as a photographer, trying to frame those new images I’ve come across during my time in Madrid.

By doing so, I found myself dealing with the lack of awareness that I experience here. Without any intention of educating, my purpose is to make the viewer see this matter differently, by presenting an aspect that usually hidden, whether the viewer eats meat or not.

In addition to the unseen sides, in my project I attempt to play with the known and the obvious, with symbols of the Spanish culture (or maybe I should call it the “Meat Culture”?!) so that the viewer’s involvement would be complete. 

This project symbolizes the parade; I want you to feel the parade. I want you to see what I see.
